About Masters Thesis
This thesis is entitled "Identifying breath patterns in vocal repertoire to modify Obsessive Compulsive behavior." It is an attempt to demonstrate how Yoga breathing exercises are proven as an effective treatment in removing the symptoms of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and how these breathing exercises are found inherently in the way people sing. The document explores how practitioners can access the healing effects of the Yoga breathing exercises in a musical setting. The basic tenants of Western terminology and Eastern philosophy are explained in order to make the connections between the two fields of music performance and yogic philosophy clear. It was written in hopes of creating an alternative approach of treatment for those working with Obsessive Compulsive Symptoms. An original composition was included as a part of the project as a demonstration.
